Maryland Strategy and Personnel
Sun, 29 Jun 2008 16:00:32 GMT
THE GOOD NEWS: Greivis Vasquez, the team's leading scorer, and Eric Hayes still have two years of eligibility left, and Sean Mosley can challenge for a starting job in the backcourt if Maryland uses three guards. Gus Gilchrist, who transferred in December, becomes eligible in January and could immediately become the Terps' best post player. THE BAD NEWS: James Gist was the most athletic player on the team and Bambale Osby was the strongest.
Maryland Getting Inside
Sun, 29 Jun 2008 16:00:31 GMT
As Maryland picks up the pieces from another disappointing finish, it's easy to see what needs to be fixed. The hard part is how to do it between now and November. "Ourselves and N.C. State were probably the two slowest teams in the ACC," coach Gary Williams said. "And physically, we need to get stronger." The problem is that James Gist and Bambale Osby, the fastest and strongest players on the team, respectively, are out of eligibility.
Maryland Notes, Quotes
Sun, 29 Jun 2008 16:00:32 GMT
FINAL RECORD: 19-15, 8-8 ACC, tied for fifth WHAT WENT RIGHT: Even as a sophomore, Greivis Vasquez grew into the role of floor leader and Maryland seemed to take off in mid-January, winning six of eight. The Terps were in a number of games down the stretch, but ran out of gas and blew too many double-digit leads. WHAT WENT WRONG: Blame it on the conditioning, speed, strength or all of the above.
