Watching George Sherrill work the ninth inning last night at Wrigley Field brought back memories of former Orioles closer Don “Full Pack” Stanhouse.

If you remember, Stanhouse was notorious for getting himself into and out of jams in save situations. His exploits led to the nickname “Full Pack” as it is said that Earl Weaver would smoke a full pack of cigarettes during a Stanhouse outing.

With the Orioles leading 7-5 going into the last inning, Sherrill allowed two hits and walk to load the bases with none out.

He then proceeded to strike out Ronny Cedeno, Kosuke Fukudome and Henry Blanco consecutively to squash the threat and get his 26th save of the season.

It was a big win for the Orioles as they stop a two-game losing streak by beating a Cubs team that has been red-hot at home this season.

Jeremy Guthrie did not pitch his best, but he finally got some run support as he earned his fourth win of the year.

Congratulations to Brian Roberts who went 3 for 5 including hit number 1,000 for his career.

Drew will be talking about underrated players on his show. I always thought Dennis Martinez, Don Buford and Adrian Branch fell into that category.

Michael Weinreb wrote a story about Len Bias at www.espn.com titled The Day the Innocence Died. It is tough but recommended reading.

To this day, the Bias story still breaks my heart as much as it did 22 years ago. It was like a member of the family died.

Bob,<br><br>That AB by Ronny Cedeno was absolutely dreadful.....He was over-matched.....His swinging K was out number 1.....Cedeno is a 25 year old SS who cannot hit a lick (1-11 in PH duty).....Lou Piniella should have sent himself up to pinch hit in that situation instead of Cedeno!!!!

I will never forget the moment I heard about Len Bias. I was on a boat off the Florida coast that had a crappy radio getting very little reception. We heard through the static that a UofM player had died of a drug overdose. Never in a million years did we expect that it was Len. When we reached shore, we scrambled to find a news source and it was there that we found out about Len. I have never been a big NBA fan but I guarantee that I would have watched the Celtics every chance I could to see his career blossom.

Great "Full Pack" reference Bob, I thought the same thing last night. I was working at Sam's Golf store in Laurel when I heard the news and my good friend Jon showed up at work in a trance and in shock over the news. I covered Bias while at Maryland for the PG Post-Sentinel. I had just seen him a week earlier at a restaurant in Greenbelt. Lenny was a very moody guy in the locker room after games and one of my most vivid memories of him his senior year was in the locker room after a game telling a group of about 10 nine year old kids to stay away from drugs. It was almost like he knew how bad they were but couldn't help himself.
