There IS pressure on Dave Cottle. In fact, I believe there is significant pressure on Dave Cottle.

When she hired Dave Cottle, Debbie Yow said she believed the Terps would win their next national championship under Dave Cottle.

I wonder if she still believes that.

One of the biggest problems in management is that sometimes people have to make decisions just to remind other people why it is that they have a job. There is a certain person from Pittsburgh I know who works at a radio cluster who does this frequently.

Dave Cottle-whether he beats Virginia Saturday or not-has accomplished a great deal. If you’re not aware of his success; fast forward to my link to Patrick Stevens’ blog yesterday.

Unfortunately, despite everything he’s done; Dave Cottle hasn’t accomplished the only goal that matters-winning a national championship. And while that might not be a big deal in a lot of places; it is in College Park.

The University of Maryland SHOULD be the absolute pinnacle of college lacrosse. The budget is there; the facilities are there (as long as they’re not playing games at the soccer facility-that’s just a bad idea); the talent is SERIOUSLY there; and the support is there. There is no school in the country that has a better combination of these aspects than Maryland.

And while Debbie Yow has been able to sit back and let Ralph Friedgen and Gary Williams work through their difficulties; she just may need to make the decision to go somewhere else with the lacrosse program.

The department could use some excitement; and a coaching search/new coach could bring that. Debbie could use a new hire to have something else to stand by (that is, if she ever gets tired of standing next to Brenda Frese).

Coach Cottle plays a brand of lacrosse that will always keep him employed. It is not spectacular; but it is effective. Leaving Maryland would only be a bump on his road. The WORST CASE scenario would be that he ended up somewhere like Mt. St. Mary’s; with the opportunity to completely turn a program around.

I have really appreciated what Dave Cottle has done as lacrosse coach at Maryland; but I have to wonder if it might not be best for everyone if a change was in the air.

Let’s see what everyone else has to say…..

Casey Willett offers updated “Magic” (Look, I STILL don’t trust Millar; but damn if this isn’t going to get viewed over and over and over again for the next few days in my house)

Casey Willett (A MAN WHO SERVED IN THE ARMY) supports Campbell’s pursuit of NFL dreams
