Bitter doesn't equal better...

I saw a really great story tonight on the web about baseball, the people who love baseball and a smallish town in Colorado.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick brought this story to life and if you haven't read it, you should.

So, what are you waiting for?

Sometimes the best part of the connection of being on the web is when people recommend great stories to each other like a referral service.

This is a sad story that is working toward a happier ending. (BTW: Kudos to the Hagerstown Suns for their involvement!)

Sometimes all of the hate and mean-spiritedness I see in the "real" world and especially on the web make me think there aren't guys like Rai Henniger.

Then, lo and behold, a good man with a sad story and a hard road and a bad hand come along with a really positive attitude.

"You can get better or you can be bitter, but you can't be both."

Words to live by...

I hope I get to meet and chat with Henniger someday. We both already have something in common: we love baseball!

Anybody feel like going to the O's-Sox game on Tuesday night?

We've already got a posse for Wednesday. We're meeting at Regi's at 1 p.m., main bar. Feel free to come down for some food and a beer!

Good story Nestor - puts things in perspective.

Taking the family to Tuesday night's game - daughter's BYE in the softball schedule just happens to fall on bargain night and Markakis T-shirt night. Hopefully it won't become Fenway Park South like it was last year. And hopefully we will meet up with some FUN Baltimore fans!
Picking the weekday game again, I see. Yup, 15,000 tomorrow, even on a Red Sox game, since we have jobs and school tomorrow. Let the spin begin ! BTW, I'll be there tonight !

Great story, especially if you have children, on several fronts. First , the lesson of playing with fireworks in general and unnecessary risks and potential harm. Especially in these days of the show JackAss and the YouTube phenomenon of filming your own idiotic stunts. Even trained professionals can have mishaps. Then on dealing with adversity and having faith. The quote regarding 'bitter vs. better', says it all. Finally, the joy and happiness one can give someone in a time of crisis through their support. Even a simple gesture of a sympathy card can be a great boost to someone's spirits whose fortunes are down. Thanks for sharing.....

Any plans to do a trip down to DC to watch the O's play the Nats next month? I think it would be sweet to have 10,000 O's fans go down and take over that stadium (since most teams take over ours). You know all those Nats "fans" used to be Orioles fans before there crappy team came. Now they are stuck with an even crappier team than ours!
