Mark Teixeira and green and tomatoes
Location: BlogsWNST InsidersNestor Aparicio's Blog
Posted by: Nestor Aparicio 5/7/2008 3:57 PM

I've been down from blogging a bit lately (a lot of internal work and I had a death in the family last week).

But today, I'm selling a bunch of advertising (by the way, if you own a business and want to be part of a cool promotion we're doing next month, email me: nasty@wnst.net).

And I've been doing some web reading this afternoon (reminds me of watching Phil Jackman cutting up newspapers in the press box of the Capital Centre in 1988...he was a MAJOR clipper of stories from New York papers!)...

God, I love the internet...so much more efficient is life with the click!

One story I just saw on SI.com written by Jon Heyman about Mark Teixeira that grabbed my interest. There's a lot of opining I could do and add to it, but it stands on its own as a thought-provoking idea.

If somehow, someway and with a BUNCH of money (think 10-20% MORE than the Yankees, Mets or Mariners will give him) they could grab him, it would be the biggest of big coups for the team.

The Orioles clearly need to do SOMETHING with the $50 million-plus a year they're siphoning from the fans via MASN and your local cable provider. Or maybe they're just going to continue to put it all in their pocket and claim that they're not. And maybe they'll continue to not get called out on it because the media are bought off or afraid of being banned from the ballpark.

But I digress...I was having such a happy afternoon...LOL

And buying "This is Birdland" ads ain't the answer. (Even though only everyone in the city realizes this except them...fools!)

Well, fire away. Teixeira as an Oriole? (At least he's saying all of the right things...

"The Orioles are close to my heart,'' Teixeira admitted to SI.com.

*****

I'm saddened by the passing of an era today with the death of Pat Santarone, longtime Oriole groundskeeper and tomato patch grower extraordinaire. I never met him, only knew what Chuck Thompson told me about him. But it was part of Oriole lore that every true fan knew about, the Weaver-Santarone tomato bets from the left field corner near the 309' sign.

For a VERY X-rated laugh that involves Pat Santarone and "Alice from Norfolk," click here...

Perhaps Ozzie Guillen is Earl Weaver's illegitimate Venezuelan child?

Finally, at some point this week I'm going to write about the Bob Costas HBO special this week. If you have Comcast, it's available ON DEMAND. Check it out.

I'd love to do a show on the radio about this the next time I fill in.

It was a wild show, man!

Ahhh, tomato plants down the left field line... such fond memories. I miss Memorial Stadium more every year...

Ozzie Guillen is a disgrace to MLB...Earl had more grace and style.

Yeah, I was just noticing the need for more advertising on the site. I only counted 54 ads on this page.

Only go after Teixeira if they finish .500 or above. If not, admit to everyone that we will not mortgage the future on one player, and look to add more promising young talent.

Seriously can you write one blog about the Orioles without putting in your agenda? Every single time I read anything you write it is basically a veiled attack on the warehouse. We get it; you do not see eye to eye with management, they didn’t give you a press pass. Well guess what, if I were having a dinner party and you went on the radio and shouted from the roof tops what an idiot I was and how mismanaged my dinner party was, would I give you free passes to my party? Oh and I had no idea you were adding sponsorship. Maybe you could begin putting advertisements into the actually blogs.
“Peter Angelos is an idiot! What a moron he GET AN AUTOGRAPHED BROOKS ROBINSON JERSEY AT ROBBIES FIRST BASE is, he doesn’t realize how many fans he has pushed away!
Nestor, My daddy's empire is very interested in buying some advertising on your station. We would like 400, 30 seconds spots for our MASN outlet, Mesothemiosa and the Baltimore Orioles. Also, my daddy does not want to sign Tex, because he is afraid that people in Baltimore may actually like him (like Cal) and actually come out to the ballbark in droves. Also, Tex may be a big piece of the puzzle that actually helps the Orioles become a contender...and daddy certainly does not want that. By the way Nestor, daddy is having a cookout this weekend at the house...can you make it? It should be fun!

Is this cool advertiser promotion going to have anything to do with a certain team with another walkout?

Re: Mark Teixeira and green and tomatoes By Chip on 5/8/2008 3:18 PM

I have a Tex sandwich with those tomatoes on the side. Thank you very much.

I wrote about this last year on another site. Although I feel he isn't the only answer, he is just another step in the right direction. We still need a shortstop (in this town I never would of thought I would ever type those words) and some right-handed power.

What about a run at Adam Dunn? I know he hits left-handed but man that guy has Hulk like power. Put Dunn and Tex in the middle with Weiters and Markakis... interesting now isn't it?

What do all you damn commies have against advertisements? Its capitalism! Nestor, how dare you try to make money from the BUSINESS YOU OWN!! Jeez, what a bunch of whiny babies...
