The Complaint Department is OPEN .....

Here’s your opportunity to gripe about the things that “piss you off” ….. when it comes to the world of sports. Is there anything in particular that’s getting under your skin? Feel free to share it ….. as I’m going to do the same.

Rex’s Complaint #1 – I have officially had ENOUGH of the “Roger Clemens Saga.” It started off with allegations of illegal drug use, spiraled into an episode of “To Tell The Truth” and it’s finally spawned into the sordid tales of marital infidelity and the supposed squiring of an underage female companion.

How did this happen? For a multitude of reasons, Clemens’ life is now tabloid fodder and it’s getting further bizarre, with each passing day. I just want IT and HIM to go away. How about you? Are you ready for Clemens to take a backseat?

Rex’s Complaint #2 – I’m ready for Roger Goodell to breakout the principal’s paddle, again. Has the commish softened over the past six months, or have opportunities been few and far between?

If it’s the latter, I’d say he’s about to get a fresh batch of “problem children.” He can start with Cedric Benson, who allegedly pilots his yacht while doing his best impression of Jim Ignatowski, from TAXI. Don’t get me started on “operating anything” while under the influence ….. SUSPEND him.

Don’t forget Marvin Harrison, either. I don’t care if he is a star receiver; he needs to be treated equally. While I’ll admit Harrison hasn’t been charged with a crime, this situation needs to be monitored closely. And, if Harrison is charged, it’s time to render the same discipline affected on PacMan Jones, Tank Johnson and Chris Henry.

Speaking of Henry, what’s happening with his situation? He’s been in trouble more often than Jones. It’s time for Mr. Goodell to rear some severe punishment. Honestly, I’ve just grown tired of learning about the legal troubles of NFL players, which seems to happen on a consistent basis.

How often do NHL players get arrested? How about MLB or NBA players? Get your house in order, Mr. Commissioner.

Rex’s Complaint #3 – I’m seriously worried about the economy, as it relates to sports. Then again, I’m worried about the economy ….. period. I think it’s safe to suggest we’re in a recession. Gas prices are nearing $4.00 per gallon (did you EVER think you would see the day?), getting a home loan is a formidable challenge and utility costs continue to increase.

Yet, professional athletes continue to land record contracts and teams offer little, if any, discount to working-class fans. Perhaps, this isn’t a complaint ….. but, instead, a concern. Will the struggling economy eventually affect pro sports?

Regardless of on-field success, is the day coming when M&T Bank Stadium is partially full? Is this a national concern? I’ve never really maintained a household during a recession and I’m feeling the pressure. And, this is without the burden of season tickets and outfitting a family full of sports fanatics.

To be blunt, is the sports world in trouble?

Well, there you have it ….. my three complaints. Feel free to comment on them or add your own. Thanks ……

Stop yelling "O" during the national athem! It started as a tribute to the Orioles. Hell no one goes to the games anymore. Why yell "O" at a Ravens game? I say put the letter to rest and work on learning the other 25 letters in the alphabet. Stop acting like a trained animal. Show some respect for the anthem that was written in this town. I am not telling you to stop getting liquored up at the tail gate. I know that won't happen. Let's compromise. Stop yelling "O" until the Orioles make the playoffs again. No that won't work I might be dead by then. How about stop yelling "O" until the Orioles finish at 500? I know Nasty (sorry, Nestor) has stop trying to free the birds. How about "free our national athem"?

Stop calling the O's a major league team , they are a minor league team playing in the majors,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they are pathetic............
I agree with the national anthem comment. That just turns my stomach. My other comment would be how unwatchable espn shows have become. If I see another sportscenter: who's more now, who's it, or whatever where they take the same 16 people and put them in a bracket i'll be sick. Who Cares! Then they have to break down the college football season week by week before it starts to see who the national champion will be. Nice job! Who picked applachian st to beat michigan? Honestly, I flip it on to catch a score or highlight but inevitably there's a clemens story or breaking news of kobe rumored to win mvp, followed by breaking news of kobe winning mvp. I dread this summer when the olympics are on. Call me old fashioned but i don't need to know results before I watch something. What if you were told how football game would go each week before you sat down to watch it? ok...thats enough

OK here is my gripe. What was Maryland thinking signing Tyree Evans? His rap sheet is almost as long as (Pratt Street)... Gary Williams sure must not care who he suits up...We at the U in Miami we cared about who we played. We have always been real upstanding citizens.....

Re: The Complaint Department is OPEN ..... By Johnny Rocket on 5/7/2008 12:10 PM

NASCAR is a complete waste of television airspace. I would rather watch reruns of Andy Griffith than rednecks making left turns for 4 hours! (EDIT By Rex ..... you never fail to enlighten me, Johnny)

Re: The Complaint Department is OPEN ..... By Jarrod, Baltimore on 5/7/2008 3:58 PM

Ravens Fans. If I have to here one more story about 2000 one more time . Ok we get it the Ravens won the Superbowl that year it's time to move on. You don't here Bucs fans talking about there Superbowl 7 Years ago, or Rams fans about there Superbowls 9 years ago. No, the Ravens aren't going to win another Superbowl playing that "great" vaunted defense and having an medicore QB at the helm. It's not happening. I know it. You know it. It's time to get over it. It's also time to get over Ray Lewis. I get it his dance get's that stadium allll rallied up. His dance is hold, and he's the FIRST guy to jump ship once the season gets out of hand.

Rex,

Why does Marvin Harrison and the Indy IRSAYS get a free pass while the likes of PacMan, Tank and Chris Henry get suspended by the NFL????----Answer: Harrison is a WR on the receiving end of the NFL Poster Marketing Boys passes and Bill Polian has greased the investigating officer with the shady Philadelphia Police Department!!!!

1. Add me to the people who don't like hearing "O" during the National Anthem. I don't care who it is supposed to be a tribute to. It's disrespecting the National Anthem and makes us look like "Baltimorons".
2. ESPN for shoving the Yankees and Red Sox down our throats.
3. Same as No. 2 for Joe Buck on Fox baseball broadcasts.
4. Calling the Orioles "O's". The Baltimore Oriole is the state bird, not a breakfast cereal.
5. The Baltimore area for being clueless and/or apathetic about hockey. I remember Nestor chewing out Keith Mills while he was at Channel 2 for pre-empting a Stanley Cup playoff game for a Towson-Loyola lacrosse game that maybe had 300 people in attendance.
6. Ray Lewis, Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens, and all of the Washington Wizards: pay attention. Athletes who have to trash talk and leave "bulletin board" material. ST*U and play the games!
7. Peter Angelos.
8. The Washington Redskins.
9. Pittsburgh fans (Penguins or Steelers).
10. Invasion of Yankee and Red Sox fans.
10a. Our city for letting them do it.

BTW, Rex. I think that Johnny Rocket is either an alias or a relative of Rick In Reisterstown. What do you think?
