Monday Morning's Crabs and Beer
Location: BlogsBlogsGlenn Clark's Blog, Brought to you by Miller Chill

There might not be competition for him, but Big Brown will be VERY GOOD for Preakness. The thought of a Triple Crown winner is GREAT for business, even if betting isn’t. The general interest and buzz on Preakness Day is more valuable in my mind than the actual amount bet will be (which will be high anyway).

Wish I could give you more today, but we actually have multiple Cinco de Mayo broadcasts looming; so I immediately have to focus on Mike D’Antoni likely leaving (Chicago or New York?), the Diamondbacks’ continued struggles against the Mets, and which Cardinals are contract angry after minicamp. I’d rather talk about Garrett Olson. I’ll have more on Olson this week I hope!

Let’s see what everyone else has to say…

Best of Sunday’s WNST Blogs:

ORIOLES:

The Official Site’s Spencer Fordin says Millar has struggled early in season before

Angels Official Site’s Ted Brock says Halos hit three homers in win

Athletics Official Site’s Jane Lee says Eveland looks to continue success at home

The Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec and Roch Kubatko say Millar trying to break another tough early season stretch

Washington Post’s Marc Carig says Mora, Markakis homer in loss

Washington Post’s Marc Carig says Wieters continues hot hitting on farm

RAVENS:

The Examiner’s Dave Carey and John Keim say Gannon thinks Flacco in good spot with Ravens

TERRAPINS LACROSSE:

The Examiner’s Andrew Vitelli says Terps enter Tourney on winning note

The Diamondback’s Eric Detweiler says Dalton boosts Terps

The Diamondback’s Eric Detweiler says Virginia rubber match could loom for Terps

Washington Times’ Patrick Stevens says Terps finish with 10th RPI

HOPKINS LACROSSE:

Inside Lacrosse’s Tournament bracket shows Jays could meet Mids in 2nd round

The Examiner’s Dave Carey says Jays red hot as Tourney starts

Washington Times’ Patrick Stevens says Jays, Terps unlikely title picks due to seeding

NAVY LACROSSE:

Washington Times’ Patrick Stevens says RPI, SOS help Mids get in over Hoyas

Washington Times’ Patrick Stevens says Navy played tougher teams than Hoyas

UMBC LACROSSE:

Inside Lacrosse’s Geoff Shannon says Dogs best of Tourney’s unseeded teams

The Examiner’s Andrew Vitelli says Smith’s injury mars big weekend for Dogs

LOYOLA LACROSSE:

SALISBURY LACROSSE:

Inside Lacrosse’s DIII Tournament bracket shows Salisbury top seed

WASHINGTON COLLEGE LACROSSE:

HORSE RACING:

DC Examiner’s Jim Williams says NBC failed in post-Derby coverage

Washington Post’s Andrew Beyer says industry making horses frailer

Washington Post’s John Scheinman says industry under fire again

SOME QUICK THOUGHTS:

-We should expect plenty of mentions of Eight Belles during Preakness coverage; but I hope it isn’t ANYTHING like ABC’s coverage of the Belmont in 2006; when we saw more live shots of Barbaro at a veterinary hospital than stories about the creatures trying to capture one of the biggest races in sports.

-Navy was more deserving than Georgetown for a spot in the NCAA Tournament despite the head-to-head loss. I still don’t know if there is a team in the field that can compete with Duke. This is more likely to be a case where Duke is going to have to play a true stinker over the next 3 weeks to not be the winner in Foxborough.

-I haven’t filled out my entire bracket; but I’ll say Maryland AT LEAST beats Denver; Hopkins beats Hofstra for sure, Navy upsets Carolina; but UMBC and Loyola will both lose in the first round. More this week.

Talk to you tomorrow.

Re: Monday Morning's Crabs and Beer    By Aubie the Tiger on 5/5/2008 11:29 AM

Coach G - Do you think Towson's Doc the Tiger is related at all with Aubie the Tiger from Auburn? Long lost brothers? Maybe we should arrange a reunion. I would 'want to get there early to mingle.' Hope all is well in the desert, say hello to DJ for me. (Edit from GMC: Something about lemon squeezy....)
