Someone is going to get shot. Someone always gets shot in soap operas. And make no mistake, the only thing this Liverpool takeover bid is missing is JR.
According to reports DIC made an official bid of 400m for Liverpool last Wednesday. I have little time for these supposed saviours. This is the same outfit that fiddled away their chance to buy it for a fraction of this cost early last year, allowing the American duo to sweep in and snatch it away from under them.
Other reports insist that Tom Hicks, Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers owner, with his right of first refusal has managed to scrounge enough dosh together to buy his diminutive partner’s 50% stake out, even after sending DIC Gillett’s way.
And today AMEinfo.com reports that the valuation the two have placed on the team puts the current owners in “dreamland.” That sounds like a pretty emphatic indication that Hicks will not be selling – at least not to the DIC group. And you’d think that for a “lifelong fan” like Al-Ansari a couple of extra Sheckles wouldn’t deter him. So you’d think.
As if that wasn’t enough spice in an already piquant dish, there are rumors that Italian giants, Inter Milan are after Rafa. Can someone please stop this ride, I’m starting to feel ill.
The irony isn’t lost on anyone either. With a 2-0 advantage heading into the March 19th away leg, Liverpool could dump the Serie A leaders out of the Champions League.
After his quite public outburst, Stevie G seems to think that Rafa is the man to bring home more trophies, maybe even a domestic title or two. Wonder if this sudden outpouring of support has anything to do with the reported interest.
It hasn’t been the silkiest of rides for the Liverpool gaffer this season. With all the well-publicized bust ups with the new management, internal rumblings and a failed rotation experiment he has been under the kosh for the entire season. I think he'll stay, though. Why not. He has the entire organization by the short an curlies.

And now for the weather.
Today is the make up game against West Ham. Captain Courageous, Stevie G, who has now gone on record saying that his previous statements regarding his impatience with the mantras of “next year” was purely a motivational ploy, has warned of a Hammer squad that will be much hungrier after a 4-0 drubbing over the weekend.
With Everton currently occupying the hotly-contested fourth, and last spot for Champions League qualification, three points clear of Liverpool, this really is a must-win game for the Reds – not that there are any okay-to-lose ones left.
We’ll see if this late season purple patch continues. Maybe Rafa has put consistency into his expanding vocabulary.
See you at Slainte.
