KOBS voting: Frank Robinson vs. Matt Stover today!

OK, so this is a mismatch. But that's really not the point. Maybe today we should take a moment to consider what an accomplishment it's been for Matt Stover to STILL be a part of the 2008 Baltimore Ravens. He survived the move from Cleveland (he's TRULY the last man standing from that fiasco and picket signs and wearing the Reeses Pieces helmets) and he's STILL kicking in the NFL. And he'll forever be a Raven. He's the franchise's all-time leader in points scored (and it ain't even close, really) and he's been a great citizen for Baltimore and an all-around decent dude. As far as Frank Robinson goes, well his credentials here in six seasons are good enough for him to win the whole enchillada in the Toyota Live Web King of Baltimore Sports. Brooks Robinson put baseball on the Baltimore map. Frank Robinson made winning and championships a standard here, even 40 years later. Stover stopped me after a Ravens practice two weeks ago and made this prediction: "Frank Robinson is gonna CRUSH me!" I'm not sure that he's wrong, but it'd be nice if Matt got at least a couple of votes... Voting for the first round of 16 matchups will continue on Monday... Good luck Matt! (At least you're a nicer guy than Frank!)

I voted for Frank because of his accomplishments and also the fact that he managed here, but... this was a tough one. Stover has meant so much to the Ravens and has been Mr. Automatic for us. IT will be interesting to see how the older vs. new generations pan out here with the voting. Either way, two great figures in Baltimore sports history.

FRANK ROBINSON- The guy who put the orioles on the map. Triple crown winner in his first year in Baltimore on the way to their first world series ever. The ONLY player to hit one completely out of Memorial stadium. Stop and think about that one given all of the HOF'ERS that played many,many games there. Stover? Probably one of the most consistent kickers in NFL history and a possible future HOF'ER. But he met his match today-Big Frank all the way!
