Blog & Tackle: "Teams" special for players and coaches
Blogs Chris Pika's Blog By Chris Pika on 7/30/2008 2:43 PM
The best way to make an NFL team if you are a rookie or a first-year player, outside of quarterbacks, is playing on special teams. The more "teams" you can contribute on, the better your chances of being one of the last 4-5 guys to survive the last cut.

Special teams (kickoff coverage, punt coverage, kick return, punt return, field goal/PAT team, and FG/PAT "block" units) is the most underappreciated part of the game. Time is provided to "teams&quo ...

Flacco...
Blogs Rob Long's Blog, Brought to you by Jerry's Toyota By Rob Long on 7/30/2008 12:34 PM
Today, in Westminster, I stood on the sidelines, near the end zone. I usually stand there at times during practice because I want to get every good angle possible.

Today, that angle gave me an opportunity to see the passing drills from a great vantage point.

I saw how impressive Joe Flacco really is. Flacco threw some passes that I haven't seen in Westminster in a long time. He was able to hit receivers on fade routes, deep out routes, post routes, ...

Cabrera stellar before ejection as O's hang out to beat Yankees. MacPhail says deals before deadline unlikely. Terry injured during practice, but not expected to miss more than 4-8 weeks. Mosley gets through clearinghouse, will suit up for Terps in '08. Terps to meet Michigan State (not Georgetown) in Old Spice Classic. Congress investigating Dutrow penalty.

Say "Bye-Bye" To Teixeira .....
Blogs Rex Snider's Blog By Rex Snider on 7/30/2008 6:54 AM
As soon as I heard the Los Angeles Angels acquired Mark Teixeira, I thought, “Thank God ….. or Artie Moreno.” Believe me, the Angels just blessed Orioles fans with a very big favor. And, they’ve probably taken some pressure off Andy MacPhail, as well.

For months, desperate Baltimore baseball fans have been collectively pleading for the native son to return to his Maryland roots. I’d say Teixeira’s relocation to SoCal will be the first step in resolving where his impendi ...

22 answers for 22 questions
Blogs Drew Forrester's Blog, sponsored by Koons Ford Security Blvd By Drew Forrester on 7/30/2008 5:53 AM
I like Wednesday's, mainly because I offer "22 Questions". Well, actually, it also means we're on the downside of another work-week, but 22 Questions IS near and dear to my heart.

Go ahead and ask anything you want.

Well, almost anything. You can't ask me if Daniel Cabrera was intentionally throwing at A-Rod in the 8th inning last night. Of course he wasn't. However, when you're a guy (Cabrera) who has thrown at hitters in the past, you ...

WNST's biggest roadie ever is today to The Bronx
Blogs Nestor Aparicio's Blog By Nestor Aparicio on 7/30/2008 4:05 AM

It’s bright and early and we’re off to have an amazing day as we take five busloads (that’s 285 people) to Yankee Stadium today to potentially see the Orioles sweep the Yanks in the Bronx.

Forecast: 84 and sunny!

We’re loaded up 35 cases of Miller Chill and Miller Lite. We’ve got juice and water and soda chilled as well. Captain Harvey’s has thrown some snacks on the buses. And we have a peppering of tickets in virtually every sectio ...

IMPORTANT: King of Baltimore Sports voting update!!!
Blogs Nestor Aparicio's Blog By Nestor Aparicio on 7/29/2008 9:36 PM

Well, we’re getting to the end of the Toyota Live Web King of Baltimore Sports competition and it’s been heated during this round because what we have left are the four legitimate “kings” of this city’s rich sports heritage.

We’ve learned lots of thing doing this “first-ever” competition of its kind online.

1.    People try to cheat.

2.    People ...

Trembley vs. MASN won't be much of a fight
Blogs Drew Forrester's Blog, sponsored by Koons Ford Security Blvd By Drew Forrester on 7/29/2008 6:53 PM
Dave Trembley might find the Orioles front office a tougher foe than any he's faced in the American League East over the last 13 months or so. The only problem? You rankle the Red Sox or Yankees and lose a series or two, there's "always next time"...rankle the folks who sign your paycheck and maybe, just maybe, "next time" doesn't come around.

For any of you who have closely followed the Orioles this season, it's becoming more and more apparent that Dav ...

An Observation...
Blogs Rob Long's Blog, Brought to you by Jerry's Toyota By Rob Long on 7/29/2008 12:30 PM
Football is played once a week. Yes, sometimes, teams may play on a Sunday, and then come back to play Thursday, but if that happens, they get more time to recover before the next game.

I believe, and I'm sure you do as well, this is done because of the physical and violent nature of the game. It's certainly not like baseball and not like basketball. You can create a game-like environment, in practice, on a daily basis for extended periods of time in those sports.
