Look what we've become

It's a sad thing that we Americans are more interested in the sports and entertainment world than we are on things that are of utmost importance to our everyday lives.

American Idol and Dancing With the Stars are top rated TV shows. People  like Britney, Lindsay, Paris, Brangelina, TomKat and what is going on in their lives is more important to us than our own families sometimes. Sports figures are getting salaries in multi-millions while the middle ...

The Long Gap Until the Next Great Crop of Pitchers
Blogs Mark Mussina's Blog By Mark Mussina on 4/30/2008 11:03 AM
Every time someone wins their 300th game, people wonder whether or not we’ll ever see the feat repeated. Well, Randy Johnson now has 285, and if his back holds up, he has a real shot at joining Maddux and Glavine (and recently Clemens) at this milestone that is so rarely reached. But forget about the next guy who could win 300. I want to know who the next guy is who can win 250.

Trading on draft day
Blogs Casey's Blog sponsored by, BaltimoreGolfing.com By Casey Willett on 4/30/2008 9:08 AM
With all the trades that took place during the NFL Draft, I thought it would be interesting to look at how these deals take place.

Many teams have preliminary talks with other teams leading up to Saturday about what they would like to do if their “guy” is not there when their turn to pick comes around ...

If you have a question, ask today...
Blogs Drew Forrester's Blog, sponsored by Koons Ford Security Blvd By Drew Forrester on 4/30/2008 5:03 AM

Happy Wednesday!

Time for another edition of 22 Questions, so take a number, line-up and ask away.

You probably know the drill by now...you ask a question and I answer it.  Pretty easy stuff, actually.

I'll answer questions about anything except whether or not I think Baltimore has "baseball fever" right now with our local nine in first place.  Another in-stadium crowd of less than 10,000 last night ...

Remembering A Legend .....
Blogs Rex Snider's Blog By Rex Snider on 4/29/2008 3:29 PM
Today would have marked the 57th birthday of a true legend. We’re talking about the very best a sport has to offer. On April 29th, 1951 ….. in a small town, in North Carolina, Dale Earnhardt entered this world.

Since joining ‘NST, I’ve resisted opportunities to blog about “The Intimidator.” Honestly, I think his image, likeness, character and name have been force-fed on every sports fan throughout this country. For the first few years following his death, a common spec ...

Last night I'm sitting in my favorite beer joint talking to my bartender buddy, Juan.  We're shooting the crap about politics, women- the typical stuff you talk about in a once smoky dive (the cigarette ban, of course) with a friend you only see over alcohol.

In the corner, there's a man who's a regular in the joint.  Likes to play the poker machine which pays off although I've never seen the poor guy collect.   He drinks ...

My first Ravens prediction
Blogs Casey's Blog sponsored by, BaltimoreGolfing.com By Casey Willett on 4/29/2008 8:10 AM
I honestly think that Troy Smith will start the season at quarterback. I am not saying he will play the entire year or not saying that at some point that Joe Flacco will not get into the game, but I think Troy starts. He fits the type of quarterback that Cam Cameron has used in the past, whether it was Drew Brees in San Diego, or Antwaan Randle El while he was at Indiana University.

Cabrera keeps it together despite 7 walks, Birds rally in 9th, Sherill blows save, White Sox game suspended due to weather. Olson, Johnson to make next two starts. Washington 'happy' to be in Baltimore. Vasquez won't explore NBA, but Terps' Walker to transfer. Henderson, Lattimore, Crummey, etc find NFL work. Hopkins beats MSM.

Derby Preview: Mock Morning Line Odds
Blogs Gary Quill's Blog By Gary Quill on 4/28/2008 11:26 PM
OK, now that the dust has begun to settle following the NFL Draft and the countless "Mock Draft" scenarios that were tossed around like bags of peanuts at Camden Yards, I need to counter with a "Mock Derby Morning Line Odds" list.

Even though the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby is still beyond mention ...

This and that on a Monday
Blogs Bob Haynie's Blog, sponsored by Bud Light By Bob Haynie on 4/28/2008 7:12 PM

Today was a fairly newsworthy day for the Maryland men’s basketball program.

We’ll start with the news of guard Greivis Vasquez returning for his junior year. Vasquez is a gifted ballplayer who can help your team win in many ways. He can score, rebound, pass and even get you a steal or two. It’s his decision making that’s drives Maryland fans crazy. For instance, when you are a 30% shooter from beyond the three-point line, you probably shouldn’t be hoisting up five t ...
