The Ozzie Newsome question...
Blogs Casey Willett's Blog By Casey Willett on 12/31/2007 6:46 PM
I will blog more about today’s events later, but here are a couple of questions that I haven't heard answered.

Why is Ozzie Newsome still employed here? Did he have nothing at all to do with the team only winning one playoff game, Steve?

Did Ozzie not get some of t ...

A "Gutsy" Move by Bisciotti
Blogs Mark Suchy's Blog By Mark Suchy on 12/31/2007 5:55 PM

Give Steve Bisciotti credit for this move.

As he alluded to in the press conference, this wasn't a hasty, overnight decision to fire the ONLY Super Bowl winning Head Coach in Baltimore Ravens history.  Bisciotti and Ozzie Newsome both discussed the fact that Brian Billick's future had been a primary subject of conversation between them for a few weeks, if not longer.

But when Bisciotti spoke of his "gut instincts&q ...

Bisciotti blinks and credibility sinks
Blogs Drew Forrester's Blog, sponsored by Koons Ford Security Blvd By Drew Forrester on 12/31/2007 5:37 PM

In the end, Steve Bisciotti blinked.

Oddly enough, though, he blinked while negotiating with...himself.

As far back as Thursday, November 16, 2007, word out of Owings Mills was that Brian Billick would be retained as the team's Head Coach.  In fact, if you search the Ravens team web-site, you'll see a blog from the team's VP of Media Relations, Kevin Byrne, that attests to that very fact on or about 11/16/07.  Media members aroun ...

There Is NO Big Story- The Billick Firing
Blogs The Fighting Ungers' Blog, sponsored by
Zen West Tex-Mex Grill
By The Fighting Ungers on 12/31/2007 5:39 PM

This morning I was asked to fill in for Bob Haynie and expected to take the usual post Ravens game calls related to the ineptitude of the offense, Billick's status as head coach and whether or not Troy Smith can be a successful starting quarterback in the NFL.

I was verbally abused by both a caller (thanks Fergie) and Ray Bachman for trying to point out that injuries can't begin to tell the whole story of why the Ravens were a train wreck this season.  I bel ...

Bisciotti UPDATED press conference notes HERE...
Blogs Nestor Aparicio's Blog By Nestor Aparicio on 12/31/2007 3:56 PM
Steve Bisciotti is ashed-faced, discussing the firing of Brian Billick. He has stopped several times with a lump in his throat.

Bisciotti said that he wouldn't address specific issues regarding to the firing of Brian Billick. He went on, when pressed, to finally admit that it was "a gut feel" sorta thing.

Ozzie Newsome and Dick Cass both joined him at the podium. Both said they were instrumental in Billick's firing.

Blog & Tackle: "Black Monday" in Baltimore ...
Blogs Chris Pika's Blog By Chris Pika on 12/31/2007 4:37 PM
The day after the close of the NFL regular season is joking referred to in league offices as “Black Monday” because of the job changes which always seem to come on that day. Surprisingly, it extended to 1 Winning Drive when Brian Billick was shown the door today.

I was part of the front office staff of the Saints when Jim Haslett was let go after the 2005 season and when Jim Mora was released from his contract in Atlanta just a year ago. When a coaching change occurs, ther ...

He was NOT.

Who Do You Want ......
Blogs Rex Snider's Blog By Rex Snider on 12/31/2007 3:00 PM
If it was up to you .... the FANS ..... who would you select as the next Head Coach of the Baltimore Ravens? Should it be a "team" guy ..... who endears himself to the players - especially if they REALLY DO get "polled" on their feelings about the coach? Or should the next Head Coach be a guy who lays down the law and carries around the reputation of "disciplinarian"?

What do you think Baltimore? Veteran mind ..... or a young guru? The rec ...

A future Hall of Fame coach coming?
Blogs Nestor Aparicio's Blog By Nestor Aparicio on 12/31/2007 2:35 PM
Word now outta the Ravens locker room is that Steve Bisciotti announced to the players that Brian Billick was fired and that a "future" Hall of Fame coach would be coming to take over the team.

Again, ANYTHING we hear at this point is grist for the rumor mill, but wouldn't that be Marty Schottenheimer or Bill Cowher?

I doubt that it's Marv Levy...or is he already in the Hall of Fame?

Gotta keep you ...

WOW...
Blogs Nestor Aparicio's Blog By Nestor Aparicio on 12/31/2007 2:07 PM
I've covered the team for 12 years and, just when you think you've seen it all, THIS happens.

In 12 years, I've NEVER been lied to or led astray -- NEVER -- by anyone in the building in Owings Mills!

(That's what I've come to expect from the Orioles, not the Ravens!)

Not one coach or player or front office person has EVER been dishonest with me, so obviously, it's easy to buy into the credibility of all of your sou ...
